What We're Reading | Vol. 2

I have noticed that we tend to read the same books over and over again at our house.  Please tell me this happens at your house too!  There were quite a few books on this list that were the same as the last list.  In fact, we read Llama Llama Red Pajama three nights in a row before bedtime!  I found a great list of 100 Picture Books from Everyday Reading and have been reserving some of the titles at the library.  It has been so much fun to discover new books with my boys!  I have also started to rotate the books we own into Henry's bedroom and the playroom.  He has been picking these books off of the shelf and he as excited as a kid on Christmas morning when he finds a book that he didn't know (or remember) that we have.

One Night In The Zoo by Judith Kerr
Have you ever wondered what the animals in the zoo do at night after the zookeepers and visitors go home? This story starts with an elephant leaping into the air to fly and the events that lead to the other animals doing silly things while they should be sleeping. The story increases the number of animals, which makes it a great book for practicing counting to ten.

Ten Apples On Top! by Theo LeSieg
A fun story that helps your little one practice counting to ten, with the fun rhymes and whacky words that are found in all of Dr. Seuss’ books. The story is repetitive in a way and gives you the opportunity to count the apples again and again.

Look Inside an Airport by R.L. Jones
A lift-the-flap book with many, many flaps. Some flaps are hidden under other flaps! This book introduces you to all of the inner workings of an airport. From checking-in for your flight to collecting your bags at baggage claim at your destination. The pictures are very intricate and fun to point out little things for Henry to find (“Do you see the man with the green coat?”).

Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs! by Sandra Boynton
Another great book from Sandra Boynton, this is a must read for toddlers who love dinosaurs. This is one of my favorite books because it focuses on opposites and primary colors.

Maddy the Alaskan Moose by Jacqui Ertischek
A cute little book that Henry got from his grandpa when he went to Alaska on a fishing trip. Maddy and her Mama listen to all of the sounds the  Alaskan animals make. It’s fun to make all of the animal sounds as you’re reading. Each page has a dragonfly, butterfly and ladybug that Henry loves to search for.

The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt and  Oliver Jeffers
I loved this book, but I think it was a little too advanced for Henry’s attention span. It’s a collection of postcards sent to a little boy from the crayons he has lost. The author’s imaginative tales of how the crayons have felt while being lost in places like behind the couch or outside to melt are a fun perspective.

Moon by Alison Oliver
I heard about this book from Everyday Reading’s 2018 List of 100 Picture Books. The story follows a little girl who is over scheduled and doesn’t feel like she has time to breathe. She meets a wolf who teaches her how to sow down and listen to nature. The lesson is a good reminder for everyone and the pictures are delightful.
